Concrete mixers (also known as concrete lorries, mixer trucks or cement lorries) live one of the toughest lives in the construction industry. Constant exposure to wet concrete, off-road driving, and heavy-duty use means your concrete wagon must be durable, corrosion-resistant, and easy to maintain.
At Kel-Berg, we supply robust new concrete mixers on DAF 8×4 chassis, built to suit the demands of UK concrete haulage. All units are available with either our own Kel-Berg mixer body or a McPhee mixer install.
WHY CHOOSE A KEL-BERG CONCRETE MIXER?
Kel-Berg concrete mixer trucks are built with durability and practicality in mind. Each body is constructed using high-grade steel to withstand the abrasive nature of concrete transport. Their design prioritises easy maintenance, with simplified access to wear components to minimise downtime.
To protect against corrosion, all superstructures undergo an arc-spray metallisation process, where molten zinc is bonded to the steel for long-term resistance to both concrete and harsh cleaning agents. For those seeking a recognised alternative, McPhee mixer bodies are also available.
WHAT DRUM SIZE IS BEST? 9 m³ OR 8 m³
Traditionally, 8 m³ mixer drums were standard across the industry. But with wetter concrete mixes becoming more common, operators are now finding that these drums no longer maximise payload.
That’s why we fit our concrete lorries with 9 m³ drums as standard. Despite being slightly larger and heavier, they allow for greater payloads of wetter mixes, improving efficiency on each run. The additional weight is marginal and more than offset by the payload gains.
CONCRETE MIXER OPTIONS
Whether you’re hauling for Tarmac, Hansons, Aggregate Industries or another contractor, your mixer must meet strict site and urban compliance standards. That’s why you can customise your concrete mixer so that is ready to be used wherever you’re driving, as soon as it is collected from Kel-Berg.
- Full camera systems
- Side-scan sensors for vulnerable road users
- Rear chevrons and warning signage
- LED spotlights and lighting upgrades
If purchased, these features are installed before collection, allowing you to go straight to work; no downtime, no extra installation.
ANTI-CORROSION PROTECTION: METALLISATION EXPLAINED
Concrete is harsh. Cleaning chemicals are harsher. Standard paint finishes aren’t enough. That’s why we applies arc-spray metallisation coating to the superstructure of every Kel-Berg mixer truck.
This process involves spraying molten zinc onto raw steel surfaces, forming a bonded protective layer. It’s more resilient than galvanising, especially when exposed to acidic wash-down solutions used to remove concrete build-up. This extends the lifespan of your mixer install and protects your investment in the long term.
